Forgive my moderate classic Porsche ignorance, but I spotted this in a shopping plaza parking lot this weekend. Parked next to a beige Camry, of course. It looks like a 356 with giant fender flares. Is it that simple? I really wanted to see if it had a newer engine in it, too...

Probably one of the 'dime-a-dozen' 356 kit cars out there.

actually, belive it or not I think it's a real 356. Outlaw is a style of old r porsche customisation before the prices went apeshit. Normally you don't see Outlaw replicas like this, so I think it's the real deal. The grille badges also make me think it's the real deal. Where in NH did you see it? I'm near Conway currently.

Sweet Corolla. So hot. Such a nice paint job. Super fast. Griptastic handling.

Kit car, my man.

People still buy badges for them. The one in the photo admits it's a kit, btw

haha, actually there are 2 camrys, 2 priuses, and a corolla, all visible in there. You can also see my wife standing (impatiently) by my wagon in the background in the blue/white dress

??? Whoever built or bought the car didn't know that the 356 was never named the Carrera? I can't tell ya.

It's the danger of a kit. Accuracy is the goal of the company. "Flair' is the goal of the owner. GT40s with Chevy LS motors. Every kit out there with a Mustang II steering rack. Most of these drivers want to be seen , so they do what they think is impressive.

That was kind of a red flag to me. But I thought, maybe it has a newer Carrera engine? Although that could be a LOT of different engines...

I hope it's more interesting than that! Because kit car or not, it's beautiful.

Yea but modern Carrera badge and those terrible wheels did not exist when this car was built new.

I bet you that car weights 1100 pounds dripping wet. A tuned VW plant will have no trouble motivating it. Kit cars can be amazing!
